This video demonstration will show you how to use Incisive Xcellerator to find a constant embedded in a formula. These constants are hard to maintain, and will often be overlooked during reviews to update them to new values.

Constant in Formula

Open your spreadsheet and click on ‘Start Xcellerator’ in the Incisive tab.
There are a series of formulas with a constant embedded somewhere, which is a problem if the formula changes, because the constant will not change.
Click ‘Start Xcellerator’ to run a scan of your spreadsheet.
The error will be flagged as ‘Constant in formula’
Pull the constant and reference the formula correctly so that the cell will adjust according to the formula.

During this demonstration, I’d like to show you how you can use Xcellerator to find constants embedded in a formula. Here we have a series of formulas, and a constant that we will have embedded somewhere. And we can start Xcellerator and see that cell at G12 as a ‘Constant in formula’ error. The trouble with having a constant in a formula is that if you adjust the constant value in the future, say this was a current rate, and the current rate became 2, the cell that has the constant embedded won’t update like the rest. And so you’d really want to have that pulled, the constant pulled out like it is, and reference it correctly, so that everything adjust the same, just like you’d expect.
