In this demonstration, I’ll show you how you can use Validate to identify changes in a spreadsheet over time using the Validate save file. So here we have three regions, and I’m going to go ahead and approve those regions. And I’m going to approve the top value in each one of those regions as well, so here I’m approving the regions, I’ll approve the value 400, and this value 17, and this value 33. So now at this point I’ll make a save, save my work, making the .valid file, and we’ll turn off Validate. So make note here, we’re making 3 checkmarks, three approvals, and three regions that are approved, they’re turned green. So we’ll say ‘Stop’, let’s make some changes, we’ll change this guy into the number 2, and that’s going to change both of our other values because we’re changing the Federal Income Tax of course. And then this region will also change because it’ll be smaller, this is no longer a formula. Let’s do one more bit. We’ll change this sheet name to ‘newname’. So at this point, let’s load our Validate file, we just named it ‘changesetdemo’. Then we see the sheet renamed dialog appears, we can select our new name for our sheet, we renamed it to ‘newname’, we’ll apply that, we’ll do an analysis of the sheets, and we’ll find that some things happened. If you look on the right, you can see that one of our regions is no longer approved, this is the one that got small. And you can see here in ‘Cleared Region Approval’ we have an option to reapprove it. We have some information about what changed, and we can just say ‘Approve’. The last thing that we can do is we have our three values that were approved before that are no longer approved, we could approve some of them if we wanted to, and we could leave one unapproved. We can see that we have different information about each one of those. We’re going to generate a Change Set Report when we close this window, so we’ll ‘Apply Changes’ and we’ll see what happened. So this report, the Change Report, shows us that there were some things that happened when we loaded, and what we did. So here we see the ‘Trace reapplied’ on this cell, and so for each cell that addressed here is the reason that we cleared is because the ‘Cell or the reference’ changed, and in this case in the formula approvals, you can see that it cleared, but the region changed shape, remember we deleted one of the cells, or changed to a data cell. And then, the approval was reapplied when we were loading. And then we have some statistics about the current session and the previous session, or the saved fail. So you can see what happened when we loaded file. Now if we go back to the other workbook, or the current workbook that we’re auditing, you will see that we’re ready to go with the formula and new name and the approvals that we made during loading there.
